- Please help this novice!!
- I have an internal modem, type: Zoom V.34 INT model #278, 28.8 bps
- I can't verify this next statement, but I question my transfer speed,
- due to very 'slow' downloads of .zip files, or varying access times to
- URL's on the www.
- Several zip files give approx. download times at various bauds, but my
- actual download times greatly exceed even the 9600 baud transfer
- estimated download times.
- I'm running Windows 3.1, with Dos 6.22.on an Acros 486DX2/66 (model
- 4655. Also have a Western Digital 1.6 gb hard drive, with disk mgr for
- above 528mb.
- In control panel, I am using com4, with baud set at 57,600.
- Netcoms software does not recgonize this modem type, and selected a
- Generic Rockwell modem at 28.8 when I originally loaded Netcom.
- In Dos, when I use the MSD commannand, and check the IRQ's for com
- ports, Dos does not indicate any of the ports (1-4) are being used.
- Questions I have-
- 1. How can I monitor (or even know for sure)my modems transfer rate?
- 2. How can I get Netcom (internet software) to recgonize my modem type,
- or what settings can I change for the Generic Rockwell modem, which
- Netcom selected initially? I have some understanding of how to change
- these, but am not sure what to change.(After reading owners manual too)
- 3. Any advise on what I can due to optimize my modems performance would
- be greatly appreciated.
- Thanks in advance...
